A Third Chance for Storm & Havoc

On March 13, 2012 Chicago Police followed a trail of blood down the street leading

to a man’s house. The man, later arrested for cruel treatment, claimed he was

teaching his puppy to walk. Inside the house, where the trail of blood ended, the

police found a sweet six-month old female bleeding and terrified. The puppy, later

named Storm, and her brother Havoc, were given a second chance and brought to

Chicago Animal Care & Control.

Storm suffered extensive injuries from being dragged down the sidewalk, and due

to her weak immune system contracted parvo, a deadly virus. Storm and Havoc now

needed a third chance.

Friends of CACC stepped in and rescued both Storm and her brother, bringing

them to health and safety with the help of an amazing foster family. Storm is now

completely healthy and along with Havoc, has been adopted!

With the help of foster volunteers and life-saving donations, Friends rescues

hundreds of animals in need. Consider becoming a foster volunteer or making

a donation to continue our work on behalf of Chicago’s neediest animals. Email

Adoption events here, there & everywhere!

The weekend started with our critters hanging out looking all gooey-eyed and sweet for potential adopters at Animal Medical Center , 1618 W. Diversey on Saturday. These folks have done low-cost and even free surgeries on our fosters, given us generous supplies of flea preventatives, and now they've held an adoption event too!

PetSmart on Canal Street was also an exciting place to be on Saturday with a ton of ACC dogs joining our resident kitty population there! Our pups even got to spend a night in the cushy PetSmart Hotel.

PetSmart store manager Dominique (right) greets Friends Associate Board President, Lisa and her foster-for-the-day "Stitch" a 5-month old rambunctious little puppy.

Volunteer Cindy has this pup totally relaxed, showing off his brand new stitches! Neutered and darn proud of it!

A man, his bike, and a deeply loved dog are driving “Miles for Max"

Last year, while on a long-distance bicycle trek through Michigan, James Pierce received word that his much loved cocker spaniel, Max, was suddenly experiencing great pain from cancer. James and his wife Sharon had to make the decision, a hundred miles apart, to let their boy go. James finished the ride with a heavy heart.

James and Max

This spring, his painful loss grew into a positive plan. James contacted us about honoring Max’s memory by helping other companion animals in need with a unique kind of fundraiser. He plans to pedal over 600 miles in three events over the summer, the highlight of which will be RAGBRAI, a 471 mile ride across the State of Iowa in July that attracts 8,500 riders each year. Of course, to be successful he needs folks like you to sponsor him!

Keep up to date with details of James’ progress in preparing for this amazing ride on this website. Get more of the story on his Facebook page too. And please help realize his dream of honoring Max by making a donation right now to “Miles for Max.”

Our heartfelt thanks to James and Sharon for this wonderful tribute to Max. Just click the logo for details.
