We're dedicated to Chicago's neediest animals

The City of Chicago takes in thousands of unwanted animals every year from citizens, brings stray animals in off the streets, and provides care for evidence animals in court cases.  Contrary to perception, most of these animals are wonderful, loving companion animals--they simply have nowhere to go.

And that's why Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control was founded.  We're here to provide help for as many of those unfortunate animals as we possibly can.

We do that by

  • Providing food, medical care and adoption opportunities for ACC animals in our foster program
  • Telling people about 2741 S. Western as a great place to adopt
  • Educating people about the proper care of their animals
  • Advocating humane treatment of all animals
  • Gifting the city shelter with resources the city budget doesn't cover

And YOU can help!

Providing foster care in your own home for animals transferred to us from ACC is our most critical need --and possibly the most rewarding for any person passionate about animals.

At the shelter volunteers are needed to walk dogs and help the adopting public get to know these wonderful animals.

At adoption events like the Chicago Wolves games, for one example, volunteers are needed to chaperone each dog attending.

At social, educational, and fundraising events we need you for everything from graphic design to taking tickets, from recruiting sponsors to post-event clean up.

Your donations support our efforts to foster the City's neediest animals.  The lives we've saved demonstrate even better than our current financial statement how your donations have been used this year.

Welcome Friends!

Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control (FCACC) is the nonprofit group dedicated to helping save the lives of over 23,000 animals that come into custody of Chicago Animal Care and Control (ACC) shelter at 28th and Western each year.

Please take a look around this website to learn about us and discover ways you might want to get involved helping Chicago's neediest animals.  These include animals still in the city's custody at the 28th and Western city shelter--and those in our custody being cared for in private homes within the Friends foster program.
